PoDubb

PoDubb is an Android podcast player with ad detection and skipping, episode summaries, and transcript search built in, all running on an AI key you supply and cap yourself. It is an open-source fork of AntennaPod, distributed from our own F-Droid repository.

What it is

Every podcast ad-skipper is either a self-hosted proxy, a paid subscription, or Apple-only. PoDubb puts it inside the player: ad detection and skipping, episode summaries, and transcript search, all running on an AI key you supply and control, with a spending cap you set.

What it does

How it works

Every podcast ad-skipper is one of three things: a proxy you have to host, a subscription you have to keep paying, or Apple-only. Nobody had put it inside an Android player. That gap is the entire reason PoDubb exists.

The AI features run on a key you supply and control, which is an unusual choice worth explaining. It means there is no subscription and no server of ours holding your listening history — and it means you set a monthly spending cap the app enforces, so a runaway job cannot quietly bill your account. Ad detection and skipping, episode summaries, and transcript search all work this way.

The other half is mundane and was the original itch: download rules that survive a daily show. Most players will happily fill a phone with three hundred episodes of a podcast that publishes every morning. PoDubb lets you say "keep the latest few" per show and actually honours it.

It is a fork of AntennaPod, whose maintainers wrote essentially all the code, released under the same GPL licence, and distributed from our own F-Droid repository rather than a corporate app store. AntennaPod is a genuinely good player; PoDubb exists to try things it has chosen not to do, which is not a criticism of the choice.
